A damp wall, a leaking roof or a wet basement is never just a cosmetic problem — water finds its way through every crack and causes structural damage that compounds over time. REMA Group applies professional waterproofing membranes and coatings that seal your building correctly, the first time.
Pretoria's summer storms are intense. A single crack in a parapet wall, an aged roof membrane or an unsealed deck joint can let water into a building in minutes — and the damage compounds with every season until it's fixed properly.
REMA Group applies professional waterproofing systems using quality membranes, coatings and sealants to roofs, decks, basement walls, parapets and wet areas. We identify where water is entering, treat the cause — not just the symptom — and apply a system that protects your building for years.
Whether you've got active leaks, rising damp, bubbling paint or simply want to waterproof before problems start, we'll assess your building, recommend the right system and apply it correctly.
Every waterproofing job is different — we assess your specific building and apply the system best suited to the surface, exposure and existing condition.
Flat and pitched roof waterproofing using torch-on membranes, liquid applied coatings and acrylic systems. We strip failed material back to substrate and apply the correct system for your roof type.
Rising damp and penetrating damp treatment for internal and external walls. We identify the moisture source, treat the wall correctly and prevent future damp from reappearing.
Waterproofing for exposed concrete decks, tiled balconies and walkways. Prevents water from tracking through to the ceiling below — a common problem in double-storey homes and apartments.
Negative and positive side waterproofing for basements, underground parking structures and retaining walls exposed to hydrostatic pressure and ground moisture.
Parapets and expansion joints are the most common entry points for water in commercial buildings. We flash, seal and waterproof these correctly using appropriate flexible sealants and membranes.
Internal bathroom, shower and kitchen waterproofing before tiling — prevents water from tracking through walls and floors into adjacent rooms or the room below.
If you notice any of these, don't wait. Water damage compounds with every rain — the longer you leave it, the more expensive the repair.
Brown or yellowish stains on your ceiling mean water is tracking through your roof slab or membrane above. It gets worse with every storm until the source is sealed.
Paint that bubbles, peels or shows white efflorescence is moisture pushing from inside the wall. Painting over it won't fix the problem — the wall needs to be treated at source.
A persistent musty smell inside a room indicates moisture is present in the walls or floor — even when you can't see visible damp. Mould follows, which affects air quality and health.
Tiles lifting off a concrete deck is almost always caused by water getting beneath them and expanding the substrate. The deck needs to be waterproofed before retiling or the problem will repeat.
Not all waterproofing is the same. The wrong product on the wrong surface fails quickly. We select and apply the correct system for each application:
Heat-applied modified bitumen membrane — the most durable option for flat roofs with heavy foot traffic or intense sun exposure.
Flexible, seamless waterproof coatings for roofs, walls and decks. UV-resistant and suitable for surfaces where heat application isn't practical.
Applied to basement and retaining walls — penetrates the concrete and forms crystals that block water under hydrostatic pressure. Works from the positive or negative side.
Flexible sealants for expansion joints, parapet cappings, penetrations and where different building materials meet — the most common entry points for water.
For tiled and concrete decks — provides a trafficable waterproof layer that tolerates movement and thermal expansion without cracking.
We inspect your building to identify all water entry points — not just where it's visible inside, but where it's actually getting in from outside.
We recommend the right waterproofing system for your specific surfaces and budget — and provide a transparent quote before any work starts.
Failed material is removed, cracks are repaired, joints are prepared and the substrate is primed correctly. Good prep is 80% of a successful waterproofing job.
The waterproofing system is applied at the correct thickness and coverage rate. We inspect the finished work and walk you through what was done and the expected lifespan.

Ask on WhatsAppThe most common reason waterproofing fails prematurely is incorrect product selection for the surface, poor surface preparation or insufficient thickness of application. A cheap acrylic paint applied without adequate prep will peel in one season. We assess the substrate, remove all failed material, prepare correctly and apply the right product at the specified thickness — done this way, a good waterproofing system lasts 10–15 years.
Usually yes, but not always. A stained ceiling can be caused by a leaking roof membrane, a leaking water pipe above the slab, a failed deck or balcony above, or water tracking from a wall. We assess from the outside to find the actual entry point — painting over the stain without treating the cause guarantees it comes back. We identify the source first, then recommend the correct fix.
Pricing depends on the roof area, the waterproofing system required and the condition of the existing surface. A basic acrylic re-coat on a small flat roof starts from around R3,500–R6,000. A full torch-on bitumen membrane replacement on a larger roof could be R15,000–R40,000+. We provide a detailed, transparent quote after inspecting the roof — contact us on WhatsApp to arrange a free assessment.
Sometimes — it depends on the condition of what's already there. If existing paint or tiles are firmly adhered with no delamination, certain systems can be applied over them. If material is lifting, bubbling or hollow, it must be removed first. Applying waterproofing over failed substrate guarantees failure. We'll tell you honestly what's required after inspecting your specific situation.
A standard residential flat roof waterproofing job typically takes 1–2 days — one day for preparation and the first coat, one day for the final coat. Larger commercial projects may take 3–5 days. We work in dry weather conditions and will not apply waterproofing on damp surfaces or when rain is forecast within 24 hours. We'll give you a clear timeline when quoting.
